Balladeer Step In and End of Days
Tonight was my first time to step in for the Balladeer. My voice warmed up about half way through the first song. The entire process of watching, making notes and visualizing everything in my head really helped in the sense I had my own character when it was time to perform. It was my own creation. Of course it has its influences but the main influence it has is me.
Sad news! If you've been following this blog, this will be my last entry. While the idea of blogging and making a VLOG is great, it's also extremely draining. It puts my brand out there and lets people know how Im progressing and what Im doing to go further in my career. But at the same time I've been spinning my wheels with it. It's been a cumbersome and timely endeavor and several entries have either no new information or rehash what I've previously said. That wastes my time and yours.
In an effort to save time and sanity, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are the only avenues I'm pursuing right now.
My Facebook page Travis J Dixon
And the Hamlin Street Productions YouTube page Hamlin Gang
And follow me on Twitter @TravisJDixon
For all those who have followed my journey so far, stayed tuned, more is definitely to come.
Until next time!

Day 199 - Kendra Castleberry
Day 199 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Kendra Castleberry, CD for Grimm, Necessary Roughness and Castle. 2nd time meeting her and we had a full class tonight. 22 students!! Great night though. Had a good read with a girl I met in a previous class. We were partners then too! Guess CD's think we look good together. Ha! Cold reads are interesting. We only had the sides for 15 minutes and every choice I made I believed was accurate. The first descriptive line about my character said I was wealthly and stuck up. Well I kind of tossed that suggestion out the window. Kendra made me bring it back. And I did.

Day 198 - Plunger Edit, Dallas Travers Homework and Rehearsal Skip
Day 198 VLOG CLICK HERE!
The continuing adventures of editing. What else can I say?
Dallas Travers is doing a live phone conference next week and as part of our homework, we have to connect with a few business people on Facebook and Twitter. Its all about using media to help shape your business image. However, they mentioned is I was using Blogger or a few other sites I was already doing something incorrect. Great Scott!
I skipping rehearsal tonight. Not feeling great so I took a night off. Did some home rehearsal. Should be ready for Thursday and Friday.

Day 197 - Scuba Class, Assassins Nap and Dear Penny Lane
Day 197 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Took my first scuba diving class today. It was an amazing experience. Hardest part was letting myself use only the regulator to breath. As an involuntary muscle, you take breathing for granted but when I have to consciously do it in a controlled and continuous fashion you appreciate it all the more. I found it was much easier to do as I was swimming because I was using more oxygen. I hope to continue my training and become certified soon.
I was beat after that but I had to go to rehearsal. Watched as much as I could but during the scenes without one of my characters I fell asleep. I took a cat nap right in my seat. No one notices when I'm awake so asleep is no different.
And Miss Penny Lane shoot her first short today. Wrangling animals much be a tough job because Penny wouldn't do anything! Only when the cameras weren't rolling, she would behave exactly as we needed. It's an experiment in film making for us, editing and shooting, so it should be interesting.

Day 196 - Facebook Connections and Spiderman
Day 196 VLOG CLICK HERE!
A lady who had seen our first videos reached out to our productions page to tell us how much she enjoyed them. I wrote her back and thanked her for her subscription to the channel and her support. Turns out she's manager of note so I will indeed stay in contact with her for the future.
Did two Spiderman parties today. Pretty straight forward stuff except the second party had a bit of a problem at the end. They had hired Spiderman (me), Batman, Ironman and Captain America. The father was a little drunk and lacked time management skills. 4-5pm doesn't mean 4-5:10. You want pictures with all the kids, superheroes, aunts and uncles, godparents and any other relatives? Plan accordingly. Build it into the schedule because Ill tell you, I don't mind a couple extra pictures but this was the classic "One more!!" which means shit. Well Batman had to leave because he was going to be late for his next party. This sent the father into a drunken rage. Keep in mind he already is a big the Hulk. Long story short, talked him down, we got paid and everyone is happy. That is until next year for the boys 5th birthday!!
Hulk drunk! Hulk Smash!!

Day 195 - All Hail Kaiser Assassins
Day 195 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Continuing on with the rehearsal process. I sit, watch, listen and absorb. Nothing new except I'm in for Balladeer on Thursday and Guiteau on Friday. Sadly, its only for rehearsal.
I did see in this week's Entertainment Weekly that Denis O'Hare played Guiteau on Broadway. I knew him from True Blood and hadn't connected that I had see him twice in NYC. He was crazy good!

Day 193 - Props and Kiddle Karoo
Day 193 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Got an idea! Quick! Make a prop list, finalize a script, scout some wardrobe and get to bed early. Tomorrow is going to be fun!
Had a monster house party with Kiddle Karoo tonight in Pasadena. Great fun! But so tiring! Wearing head to toe monster outfits and dancing for 45 minutes in LA heat is ridiculous. I got such a sunburn!
The skin is literally peeling off!! No its really Cantankerous Carmudgien the 3rd. Or as his mommie calls him "Mudgie!"
But the little kiddies enjoy it!

Day 192 - The Assassins In My Head
Day 192 VLOG CLICK HERE!
At this point Assassins is constantly playing in my head. Im going over my parts again and again, visualizing my blocking, understanding the reasons for my characters actions. I can't wait to perform. I hope I can fill the house with my friends and MY FRIENDS ONLY!! I kid, I kid. But seriously, the house is maybe 50 people and if I can get 20 there I'll be happy. But there are also industry professionals and others I would like there too so yes 50 people! First, I have to set my dates.

Day 191 - Travers, Twitter and Assassassassassins.
Day 191 VLOG CLICK HERE!
If you are an actor and havent check out Dallas Travers then do yourself a favor. She teaches actors how to empower themselves. Waiting by the phone wont do it nor did it ever. I've been trying to implement some of her techniques. More on that as it develops.
Also giving Twitter another try. Honestly, it seems like girly attention deficit disorder nonsense. I have a thought! I must share it! But Im hell bent on learning how to utilize it more successfully to promote myself and to stay in contact with fellow actors and industry professionals.
More Assassins rehearsals. In my head, I'm ready. I need some practical application. Watching isn't cutting it for me. Im getting anxious. I see what the leads are doing and its a great job but not the way I would do it. I have made other choices and thats fine. Same character but a different interpretation. Something I can't wait to explore in the real world....within the play world.....nevermind....you know what I mean!

Day 190 - Ani Avetyan and Couerage Theater Connection
Day 190 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Met with Ani Avetyan, casting director for The Closer and its spins off Major Crimes, at Actorswest. She likes to look everyone in the face and say either "Nice to meet you" or "Good to see you again." Its great she makes these connections, these personal connections, because it seems so much of this business is "you don't fit, so I forget." You make these connections first so when you are in that room and the piece doesn't quite fit, they continue to bring you in until it does and you book. Versatility is paramount!
Interesting point of interest, the previous show with the Couerage Theater Company was produced by Ani Avetyan. She knows the many of the Couerage staff and will hopefully be in attendance for Assassins.
And we did a stumble through of the show tonight. Im off book for both roles. Anybody want a night off? I'm good to go! Anybody!!?! Bueller??! Bueller......?
And some much needed BS to help validate this blogging effort. Thanks bro!

Day 188 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Had rehearsal for Assassins yet again and tonight. The final Guiteau and Balladeer blocking pieces has been finished. Next week, I have to be off book. Granted, I have more time than the rest of the cast because I won't go on for some time. But better to be ready so I don't have to get ready.

Day 187 - Dog Park Rehearsal and Ballad of Czolgosz
Day 187 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Took my scripts to the dog park and went through as much as I could. Most of Assassins because that is the first script that needs to be off book. Charlie Brown is the week after.
At Assassins rehearsal we went over Ballad of Czolgosz and I stepped in for Jeremy as the Balladeer. I watch and record the blocking, I know the notes and the lyrics and as soon as I'm allowed to step in, practical theory does not apply. I begin thinking from moment to moment and pick up cues much slower. Practical application is needed to solidify theoretical practice. Hmmm.

Day 186 - Spiderman Carl's Jr, Uncle Sam and the Fourth of July
Day 186 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Free food? I will take! Carl's Jr did a Spiderman promotion on the 4th of July where anyone dressed as Spiderman would receive a free burger. I'm game. I still have the outfit from last week and off I went!
Had a few friends over for the fourth and just as the party got swinging (no pun intended) I had to head to a kid's party playing Uncle Sam. No joke. I had no particular voice in mind just that I was broke. I didn't even see a kid for the first hour. I painted only my hand and tried to look occupied. Hey, I mean I'm still getting paid regardless.
And finally fireworks on the roof of our apartment. No, I don't mean we shot them but every single direction you looked they were going off. 360 degrees. You could see Burbank, Universal City, Sun Valley, Valley Village and Van Nuys. The occasional firework would launch from less than 100 feet from the apartment and scare the life out of the dozens of people on the roof. Yes, it's illegal, highly illegal due to the drought and dryness and the proximity of thousands of residents but on this particular day, no one cares except those of us who are in bed listening to the sounds of cannon booms as we try to sleep. Go America! Now let me go to sleep!

Day 185 - Snoopy
Day 185 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Took a look at my Charlie Brown script finally today! I'm remembering more and more of the show having seen it so many years ago. Originally, I went to see the show with a fellow actor friend of mine from high school in Tulsa, David Wilder. He played Snoopy and thought he was extremely funny. Looking back, he was a big influence.
But now I have an even bigger influence to do well in this productions. Kristin Towers-Rowles, my personal would-be agent, is in the show with me as Sally. Her father Robert Towers, played Snoopy in the original animated production. What the what!?

Day 184 - Assassins Balladeer Rehearsal
Day 184 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Ran Balladeer stuff tonight. Singing this track in my head is much easier like so many things are but the important thing I need to remember is where to breath in his songs. Phrases are long and they change time signatures so often its easy to trip and fall and never catch up. Seeing as I've only done it once and I was on track for most of it I'd say I'm in a good place.

Day 183 - Charles J Guiteau, Baby A Musical and 6 Month Check Up
Day 183 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Stepped in for Guiteau at rehearsal today. Once I stretched my legs a little I was good to go under my own steam. I've created a character that is very much like the historical figure we know but is also my own from what the actual actor playing him is doing with it. He's happy and angry for all the wrong reasons.
Saw Kristin Towers-Rowles in Baby A Musical in West Covina tonight. Gail Wirth from my Forum production last summer was also in it. Both were fantastic and among the best things about it. But then again Kristin can't help but out shine everything. She rocks!
Did a 6 month check up on 2012. I've had 20 auditions, 5 bookings including 2 television shows, one commercial and 2 musicals. Not getting famous or rich anytime soon but I did have to join SAG which is now SAG-AFTRA. Hope the next 6 months is even better.

Day 182 - Deedee Bradley and Cha--
Day 182 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Ran a workshop with Deedee Bradley this morning. I believe this is the second time and she is very quick with her evaluations. They're precise, short and to the point which is great for everyone. I have noticed with some of the actors who participate in these workshops are a little backward. These workshops are for when you are ready to showcase your talent to the industry professionals, not to come as green as the grass. When you ask questions like "How do I get auditions?" you're not ready to meet these people.
And I put "Cha" in the title because I watched the first hour of Chaplin. Couldnt finish the sucker. Maybe Im tired or maybe its slow. 2 hours and 34 minutes was too much. So I will conclude with "Lin" tomorrow night. I will say I was laughing out loud at the Downey Jr's physicalization embodiment of Charles Chaplin. I love slapstick and it tickled me silly to watch these reenactments.

Day 181 - Assassins Music and Home Rehearsal
Met with the musical director and ran the trouble spots for both Balladeer and Guiteau.
Then ran blocking in the living room for both characters.
Read Entertainment Weekly. Louis CK. Funny Guy.

Day 180 - Ty Harmon Workshop
Day 180 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Ran another workshop for Ty Harmon. Saw him back in January . This time he gave me a scene about a super, newly rich asshole who needs his porn turned back on in his hotel room. At first I read it as a socially awkward individual and then he gave me the redirect. He always liked to deter actors at the beginning, For some, its merely reinvigorates.

Day 179 - In House Audition and The Ballad of Guiteau
Day 179 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Had an audition for a TV pilot pitch which is being sold only in house so if I did book it it would never air but would be a great opportunity. I played myself so I was at complete ease and all my ridiculous came spilling out.
Tonight we blocked The Ballad of Guiteau and since I have to follow both Balladeer and Guiteau, it was a busy rehearsal for me! Cross this way, stand here, sing, pray, kick, kick, turn, kick! 5, 6, 7, 8! Wait wrong show.

Day 178 - 50's Promo Shoot
Day 177 VLOG CLICK HERE!
The day finally arrived. We shot at the Madrid Theater in Canoga Park. This theater is a very nice space in the middle of row after row of chain stores. Nice fly space, not a lot of wing room but a decent seating capacity with a balcony. Took a little bit to find our groove with the gib and when we finally did we flew through the numbers.
The Twist was in a weird key when we started but the band was great about modulating it to fit my voice. Overall I feel it was a success and I hope Laura is happy with the result.

Day 177 - Final Cabaret Rehearsal and Assassins
Day 177 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Met with Laura and Rusty for our final rehearsal before we shoot the promo tomorrow. Since everything is being broken down and shot in pieces, its not really going to be a laborous as I previously thought. I do need to touch on a few lyrics before I.................sleep.
Assassins rehearsal tonight was all about the final scene in which Oswald is talked into shooting JFK by Booth and the other assassins. Obviously fictional. Got the blocking for it and the final number as well. My book looks like a football coach's scribblings with all my circles and X's and arrows. Getting the blocking down for two characters had been a welcome mental workout. I'm going broke not working at CPK but I'd rather be doing something that makes me fulfilled and broke then semi-broke and empty.

Today was all about the MTLA (Musical Theater of Los Angeles) benefit. We arrived at around noon to get set up and rehearse and we find Ari's house is a flurry with event planners, board members, staff, volunteers putting finishing touches on everything.
Where are my servers?
Drinks anyone?
Hubba hubba!
Backyard grazing.
What a spread? (Thats what she said.)
Goal!!!!
Mula please.
The show itself was very well received. A lot of people left feeling inspired to write a check so that is great news for MLTA. A sizable dent made and onto the next one. Thank you MTLA and everyone involved.

Day 175 - Charlie Brown and Closing Night of Round Rock
Day 175 VLOG CLICK HERE!
So I'm lost in a shopping center looking for the one building that isn't labeled with an address or a business sign. It looks like a vacant building so its my last resort. And that was my audition location for Charlie Brown. You'd never know it was anything from the outside. Luckily since it was a by invitation only audition it didnt matter I was a few minutes late. I sand "The Song That Goes Like This" from Spamalot and then "Suppertime" from Charlie Brown. There was 3 guys for the audition all of whom were on the email thread from Kristin Towers-Rowles about the audition. Seriously, that woman should be my agent. Anyway, after we all auditioned, we went back into the room together. "Steven, you're Charlie. Charlie, you're Pigpen. And Travis, you're Snoopy." They didn't waste any time. Handed us a script, a CD and say "GO! LEARN!!" October 20th! Put it in your calendar!
And tonight was also the last night of Round Rock at the Fringe Festival. Everyone in the cast has been amazing. I've already said this but I feel truly honored to be a part of this project. Aaron Kozak, the writer/director, has a gift for dialogue, maybe a young Aaron Sorkin in the making. Maybe its just the name Aaron?

Day 174 - Batman, Song Rehearsal and Round Rock Show 4
Day 174 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Finished our Batman sketch. Color correction is done as well as sound. Produced two, one with background music and one without so we can decide which is funnier.
Aly, my singing partner for The Song That Goes Like This, came over today with her boyfriend I presume and we rehearsed for about 20 minutes. I mean no need to fix something that aint broken, right?
And we had our fourth show of Round Rock tonight. A completely sold out crowd and they seemed quite enthusiastic. I forgot a line, at least, in my defense I thought the other actor had more to say so I waited. I did miss it, I just wait. Unacceptable.

Day 173 - Promo and MTLA Rehearsals
Day 173 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Met again at Madilyn Clark studios for rehearsal for the cabaret promo. It's getting tighter. I have to twist so much my mid section is going to be a roman pillar. Nice.
And ran the program for the MTLA fundraiser on Sunday. I get to see The Song That Goes Like This from Spamalot in place of Don't Walk Away which I was super afraid of doing. Hallelujah!!

Day 172 - True Blood Shoot and Assassins Blocking
Day 172 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Had my day on True Blood. It was a simple co-star but I got the chance to work along side Sam Trammell and Janina Gavankar if only for a handful of seconds.
I believe the episode comes out in another 9 weeks as it is the 11th episode and 2nd has just aired. I wont say a thing about the episode but it was a freeing experience. Check on the Authority Lair.

And we did some blocking for Assassins in the actual theater space. The show is being produced at The Actors Circle Theater.

Day 171 - Mohr Headshots, MTLA Rehearsal and Cabaret Promo Rehearsal
Day 171 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Finally got some headshots done with Jonas Mohr, the man, the magic! Check out one of the raw photos.
Ran to rehearsal for MTLA. We ran "Don't Walk Away" which didn't matter because we cut the number afterwards.
Then jetted over to rehearsal at Madilyn Clark Studios but, NO, rehearsal was at Debbie Reynolds! Next stop! Blocked some simple dance moves but we did the TWIST a lot!

Day 170 - Breaking Bad Season 4 and MTLA Rehearsal
Day 170 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Attention CPK guests. It's just #$%@ing food. Please don't be pompous and indignant if your vegetarian with japanese eggplant pizza comes out without a thigh fattening amount of cheese on it. Truth is, you don't need it.
Finished Break Bad season 4 and what a ride! Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul are amazing on that show. It's been a master class watching these two actors especially the character of Walter White who has gone from respectable citizen to desperate gangster. Cant wait to see what next season has in store!
Rehearsal for MTLA tonight. New songs, new arrangements, new keys, oh my! Have a run of all of it on Thursday after a rehearsal for the cabaret Im doing! June please hurry and get over!

Day 169 - Round Rock Show 3 and Scoring
Day 169 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Round Rock show number 3! Sold out show. Great response. Press was there too. Fingers crossed.
Started to score some of my mime deaths tonight. It's not easy but I find it very interesting how music changes the entire mood of the piece. A simple half step means the difference between a joyful noise and a sorrowful melody. Neat.

Day 168 - Moonrise Kingdom and Round Rock Show 2
Day 168 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Caught Moonrise Kingdom this morning and its one of the better Wes Anderson movies I've seen. It still has that predictable lulling moment when you wonder where the story is going. Its about that point when I start to nod off. However, this one quickly brought me back and I ended up enjoying the ending very much. The two kids in the lead roles were phenomenal!
Round Rock show number two was tonight! Took a few liberties with my pauses tonight. So much so I thought about not even continuing my lines. What?! I was just out for a stroll on stage apparently. But I got them out and continued on with the scene. I've been taking my character Judge Hogg in a direction that makes him almost prissy. He loves his dapper, perfect look and enjoys hearing himself speak. He loves confrontation until he's up against a force he can't combat or more importantly understand. Maybe I'm making a mountain out a mole hill.

Day 167 - Kicking Abs and Round Rock Premiere
Day 167 VLOG CLICK HERE!
So True Blood shoots on Wednesday of next week and I hit the gym with back to back classes. If I'm losing this shirt for HBO I need to look great! Good grief.
Had the official Round Rock premiere tonight and it went great, at least from my perspective. We had all new scene change assignments so I didn't have my usual 30 minute break before my first and only scene in Act I. However, I still found time to go over a few things from other projects. Saw Kozak after the show and he just seemed stoked at how it went. He was bouncing around he was so excited. I truly am honored to be a part of the project. Heard a reviewer was in the audience and he better have loved the crap out of it!

Day 166 - Xana-Don't and Another National Anthem
Day 166 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Been singing "Don't walk away" from Xanadu all day. At first glance, I thought it was out of my range and I was kind of afraid of it but now I love it! Sits nicely in my voice and makes me work a little bit. Check out a performance of it at the Tony's Dont Walk Away
Worked "Another National Anthem" tonight at Assassins rehearsal. Since I understudy both Guiteau and Balladeer, I was a schizo singing both parts back and forth, back and forth! I'm ready to make Assassins a one person show!

Day 65 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Had some homework for rehearsal. Researched both Charles J. Guiteau and Lee Harvey Oswald. Also created a backstory for the Balladeer. However, ran out of time and didn't get to deliver my speech. Next week will have to do. Also did a read through with most of the cast. Going to be a great show!

Day 164 - Underground Audition and 50's Cabaret Rehearsal
Day 164 VLOG CLICK HERE!
My audition today didn't go as well as I would have liked. Playing a real person requires research and I did my share but it was also a period piece which I don't think was in my body quite yet. Plus it requires an English accent which, again, I wasn't comfortable to perform. The acting choices themselves I felt decent. I wasn't ready for this audition though. I had 12 hours. No excuses. I should have been.
Went through the music for the cabaret and it fits better in my voice than I thought. Should be a fun time. Met Rusty, the other guy in the cabaret! Great voice!

Just picked up an audition for tomorrow and need to work lines. Got to go!

Day 162 - First Assassins Rehearsal
Day 162 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Rehearsal for Assassins tonight mainly consisted of getting to know your fellow cast, all who seem super talented. Went over rules for the rehearsal space, understudy rehearsals/dates, and learned just a few numbers. I also auditioned for the understudy for Guiteau since they were without one. And I read for Byck as well because why the hell not! I love this show so I don't mind having my hands in everything.

Day 161 - Prometheus and Round Rock Preview
Day 161 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Caught Prometheus this morning and it was less than what I was expecting. It promised an origin story and it gave one only partly. Yes, we were made by these human-like creatures light years away but who made them? The answer to "from where did the creatures from the Alien come?" was revealed. So at least thats something. Didn't really get time to care about any of the characters. Solid performances but no real break out moments. Almost everything is in the trailer but it was still worth my time and money to return to that universe.
Round Rock preview was tonight and Rachel, Kanae, Wesam and my mother were in attendance and in the front row. The run went well I believe at least from my perspective. Everyone was on point. Rachel had a few criticisms but the feedback seemed positive from all.

Day 160 - Bootcamp Bound, Jonte's Play and Super Late RR Rehearsal
Day 160 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Supposed to have a substitute in bootcamp today and when she didnt show, a few of us took matters into our hands. I popped in my iPod with my dance cardio pandora station and we lead the class. It was awesome how many people stayed a took our lead. We were there to work out and work out we did! Then the Pilates substitute showed up and it got weird when we tried to throw us out for planking too long. What a self indulgent tool.
My mother (Yes she's in town!) Rachel and myself caught jontes play finally in its last weekend. "Our Lady Of 121st Street" was an excellet ensemble piece, some pieces better than others. Overall, everyone was solid and had great moments of vulnerability and humility but there were times when there were two different scenes on stage at the same time. I thought Jonte did fantastic because he listens to his fellow actors and reacts from instinct rather than routine. That's much more entertaining to watch because it's real!!
Currently, I'm at rehearsal for Round Rock. It's 1 a.m. and we just started scene 4 of Act I. I've had 24 ounces of Monster and I'm still falling asleep. Maybe it'll bring a level of quiet stability to my character seeing as I can barely function right now.

Day 159 - Lease on Life, Mime on a Dime and RoundRockSpeedThrough
Day 159 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Show a new scene for a movie I did almost a year ago. The original scene I shot ended up on the cutting room floor. The director/writer gave me a second coming by writing a new opening and asking me to act in it. Well die in it. This is the year of dying. I get shot in my own kitchen while trying to woo my girlfriend. But much thanks!
More mime edit!
RanRoundRockTonightAtABreakNeckPace. NoPausesNoStopsNothing! KeepGoing! Couldn'tUnderstandWhatMostPeopleWereSayingButIDidn'tMatterYouHadToKeepGoing! Last rehearsal before preview! Go Round Rock!

Day 157 - Music Rehearsal, Mime 2 and Round Rock Again
Day 157 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Started listening to my songs for the cabaret and they are mostly 50's and 60's. Great pieces! I'm gonna have fun with these!
Shot another episode of Mime Death. This time with a gun! You'll understand later. I think theyre funny.
And another rehearsal for Round Rock. Its coming down to the wire. Two more rehearsals and then we have our preview. After that, maybe one/two more rehearsals and we premiere at The Fringe Festival. And from what I hear, we need to be tight with everything because time is in short supply with all the plays going up!

Day 156 - Cabaret Downloads, Self Study And Round Rock Run
Day 156 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Went through all my new music for the cabaret. Quite a bit there but I'm mostly background with lead on only a few. Made my iPod tracks and I'm learning by ear right now. Jeez!!
Went over my Assassins tracks too. Again by ear until I get sheet music but honestly I could learn it all just by the cd. I did learn at the callback that the show is all tracked. Wow! Haven't done a tracked show since Campaign. I really hope these are fully orchestrated tracks because synthesized ones sound like black bean ass.
Ran Round Rock again. Getting ready for preview on Saturday! Check out the Facebook page. Round Rock

Day 155 VLOG CLICK HERE!
I'm shooting a cabaret promo at the end of the month so Laura, the lady organizing it, dropped off my music and notes. It's a rat pack/Jersey boys feel. And that's all I did today. That's it! Lazy Sunday. I needed one so back off!

Day 154 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Help build some of the sets for Round Rock today. Basically, I helped pre-drill some holes and screw a few things (that's what she said). I always thought I would enjoy working for a construction company. Maybe it's my blue collar upbringing but I love working with my hands.
Did a private gig in Downey with Complex Comedy at a fundraiser for a school library. Good fun! And it was paid!

Day 153 - Abs Redux, Assassins Schedule and Fire Pit Edit
Day 153 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Trying to really hit back hard at the gym and eat right for the next month. Having to take my shirt off for True Blood is going to be quite a feat when I'm up against abdominal legends such as Ryan Kwanten and Joe Manganiello. I worked out so hard, I came home and ate lunch and literally fell asleep on the floor in the middle of the living room. OUT!
My Assassins schedule was posted today, 5 days a week for 4 hours with Tuesday and Saturday off. Not sure how it will work with understudies but it should be fun!
And doing some last minute finishing touches on some editing by the fire pit on our roof with Penny Lane at my feet and a glass of chianti in my hand. Nice.

Day 152 - Mime Death and Assassins Understudy
Day 152 VLOG CLICK HERE!
During my run of Forum last summer at Theater Palisades, a few cast mates and myself killed ourselves via mime every night. I compiled a list and want to shoot some of them as a part of our web series. It makes me laugh.
Got an email from the casting director of Assassins today and found out I got the Balladeer understudy. I'll take it. I get one night guaranteed so I can still put it on the resume. Its a small substitution victory for my senior year of college. Small. But welcome.

Day 151 - Transformers: The Ride and True Blood
Day 151 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Rachel and I made an improptu trip to Universal Studios today because I had the night off and, well, Rachel always has the night off. The new Transformers ride opened on the 25th and I was skeptical. I don't remember the building being very big because it use to house the Backdraft exhibit. The story behind the ride itself takes place somewhere after the second but before the third. You are on board an autobot who is escaping the NEST, the autobot headquarters on earth, after Megatron and other Decepticons attack trying to steal the All Spark. Again. The 3D graphics are sick amazing. You travel from room to room as the battle follows you. You're high, you're low. So many familiar faces make an appearance even Glenn Morshower from the films. He briefs you before your ride. WHAT?! Check it out! But get there early because in these summer months you can expect to wait hours to experience it.
And I got the official call today. I booked a costar on True Blood! Shoots later this month and doesn't air until the end of the season but stay tuned because I'll have more on that as it develops. Great day!
Until tomorrow!

Day 150 - Assassins Callback
Day 150 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Had my callback for Assassins today. It was unusual because everyone was in the room for the singing and the reading. I did my best to tune it out because I didn't want to mind $%&# myself right before I auditioned. I feel it worked because I was totally at ease when I walked up there. I felt I did very well. I wasn't influenced by anything I heard or saw. I did my own thing. Whether I get it or not is not important. Wait! No it is! I missed the audition for this show my senior year of college and got put in the ensemble. My senior year! Thousands of dollars a year and I'm in the ensemble. I still have issues apparently. Let it go man! Nick Demos, the guest director, bless his heart for putting up with horrid attitude the entire process. I apologized and luckily he cast me his workshop I Want My 80's Musical afterwards and later for the summer season of Lyric Theater in OKC. So hopefully I will book it and I can move on!

Day 149 - Downtown Independent LA Screening of Empire
Day 149 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Went to a mixer at Collin Brazie's (Our DP for Last Call and Empire) new swanky downtown loft before we went to a screening for Empire and Nick Corporon's (our director for both films) new film Barbie Boy as well.
Very interesting to see myself up on the big screen. I look handsome. The response was excellent. I received great feedback from complete strangers which was comforting I guess. I was always a little self conscious about my lip but it doesn't read at all. I think it actually helps the character.

Day 147 - Further Edit and Panache
Day 147 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Did some more editing today. I'm really getting good at cutting around certain inconsistencies. For example, Wesam didn't have his hands in exactly the same place and fudged it so the viewer wouldn't notice. I'm loving it. I just need to do it with no distractions around so I get more done. I edited while I watched Men in Black one and two. So really I edited all of 20 minutes. Realistically.
I drove to San Pedro to see a couple of ex-castmates from Forum, Kristin Towers-Rowles and Frank Weidner. They were fabulous but totally under used. Not their fault nor the director as the roles were smaller than they deserved. When I found out the leads opposite each other were actually married, it made sense why they were cast together. However, I don't think they took chemistry class together. Cody Lyman as Jumbo was fantastic as well. I look forward KTR's and FW's next endeavor.

Day 145 - Cowboy Callback and Flag Stand Audition
Day 145 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Went to a callback for cowboy audition from yesterday. Went like clockwork like the day before. Walked in, slated, roped a c-stand and was out. Went to the bike and there was another luxury SUV with a handicapped sticker and an unpaid parking meter. When did this become a thing?!
And then jetted over to a print audition. I had to show I could do a flag stand with is grabbing a pole and holding yourself sideways. Come to think of it I have no idea what I looked like when I did it today. In my mind it looks one way but Im wondering if I didn't look ridiculous. It felt good!

Day 144 - Edit, Cowboy Audition and Handicap Spaces
Day 144 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Spent some time editing this morning. I have to say, it is tedious but I do enjoy editing. Who knows? Maybe get a job on the side doing it. Beats slinging pizza.
Went in for one of my favorite casting directors today. Slated, roped a C-stand and was done. Super fast. Did everything I could. All about the look now.
Met a guy after the audition who drove a Lexus SUV who didnt' want to pay for the parking meter so he put a handicap tag on his dash. Mind you he is in the best shape of his life. That's LA.

Day 143 - Charlie Brown, Headshot Rummage and "Door" Edit
Day 143 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Kristin Towers-Rowles comes through again with another potential musical audition for me. This time its for You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. I submitted so we'll see! I sang Snoopy's and Charlie's songs in college for juries so I'm at least familiar with some of the music. We'll see!
Got rid of a 100 headshots so far. Only 500 to go. Some I've found so far could be potential headshots while other just portfolio.
Wesam and I started editing too. I think we got some great stuff. Realizing a good editor can make or break you. Cut some sound, add some ambient noise, made a beat into an awkward moment. Great stuff!

Day 142 - Audition Help and Headshots by Rachel
Day 142 VLOG CLICK HERE!
A friend of mine got a big last minute audition today and called me to run some lines. I have no idea if he made any calls before my number but I'm still honored he trusted me enough to ask for my advice. For better or worse, I gave my opinion of the scene and his take on it. I think by the time we were finished, we found a great place for the scene. It's all up to him now
Rachel and myself grabbed the camera and attempted to shot some headshots. I have a few looks I need to get for my respective agents/managers. Haven't been through them yet but I hope we get at least one. I'm always so bad at headshots. I think sometimes I'm in the mind set of nothingness. I need to approach these pictures as if I were a character in the photos. Instead, I'm thinking about myself and what I want to eat, the sun hurts my eyes, whats a four letter word for a British lady with a nasty disposition. We got there by the end of the shoot.

Day 141 - Scott David, Scene Sifting and Alien
Day 141 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Ran the workshop for Scott David again today. I anticipated him getting there early and starting which he did by 30 minutes but I was an hour ahead of schedule so we were ready to go! I found a scene from Harry's Law that I really like so I presented it to him today and he actually seemed to agree with my take on it and the strength that I had behind it. It did get a little heated too long but he also said "You seem like you can direct yourself very well." If there's one thing I learned from Howard Fine's class, it's don't bullshit yourself. Just be honest with yourself in the craft. If it was shit, don't tell yourself it was gold. And if it was gold, keep it to yourself. Always good to see him. His office goes back to work end of June. I'll be on the lookout.
Sifted through the scenes today and we've got some great material. I really like what Parker Quinn (Ehret) did as our DP. And luckily we also have a lot of blooper material too. An actual knee to groin shot!
Rewatched Alien (1979) by Ridley Scott in anticipation of Prometheus. They use that cat a lot to insight fear. Jumping out everywhere! Meowing and hissing! That thing should be grateful to even be alive on a deep space commercial vehicle like the Nostromo! Picked up the directors cut and honestly I couldn't you the difference. But there are moments toward the end where it is completely silent despite what is being shown on the screen. The original tagline for the film read "In space no can hear you scream." Point taken.

Day 140 - Andy Henry, Who's at the Door and Trash Cat in the Hat
Day 140 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Met with Andy Henry this morning. I open the workshop and Aileen took over. I felt I rushed the scene. It might have been better rehearsed if I had found it earlier. He redirected me to make it less is more. That's the Jim Carrey in me. MORE MORE MORE! Never hope more than you work and since my work was minimal on the scene, I won't hope much for an audition. But I will a little.
Today we had our first official shoot to kick off our web series. We did a segment called "Who's at the door?" The first of many. We'll get several in the can before we officially launch that way we have enough material to slowly release a steady stream. Thank you to everyone involved! Especially Kristin Towers-Rowles, Jocelyn Aguilar and Maura Hanlon Smith for the use of their children, relatives and young ones! Way to pimp out your blood! More of the episode later.
And jetted off to a kids party party not ten minutes after we wrapped. I played Cat in the Hat and let me tell you, when you are sweating it is difficult to put water soluble paint on your face. Plus I looked like Trash Cat in the Hat. By the time I was finished, an hour and half later, most of the face had receeded to a small area encircling my eyes nose and upper lip. Man I looked weird. No wonder the kids started to tune out halfway through my magic show. They were thinking "Ah this is bullshit! I can see his pasty skin under this pasty makeup."

Day 139 - Transcription and Buddhism
Day 139 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Seeing Andy Henry tomorrow and is currently casting a feature. Got a peak at the breakdown for it and there is a role that fits me and I found the perfect scene from Breakin Bad. Transcribed it along with a scene from Harry's Law (RIP) for Scott David on Sunday.
At work, my last table was a lovely couple who had been friends for 28 years. Eventually, we got to the topic of me being an actor. Apparently they are both Buddhists and attend a service near the Beverly Center. He asked me if I wanted to play with the big boys, a reference to a conversation we had earlier about my time playing football with seniors much larger than myself. "Big boys" this time was in reference to higher up actors who also attend these meetings and he talks with on a regular basis. I mean, it couldn't hurt checking out a meeting or two. Maybe expand my horizon a little.

Day 138 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Manager called me early to tell me I was on avail for the commercial I went to the day before. I hadn't had an audition in some time but when I do I make it count. Fingers crossed.
Had an audition for a military type role today and I was in the waiting room with some real American badass. My partner for the audition was Army Special Forces. I mean unless he lied. He was pretty specific. The devil is in the details I suppose. But the audition went well because we didn't need to do much. Mostly its a look with this one. Do I look badass enough?

Day 137 - Callback and Lighting Design
Day 137 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Callback for this particular project went much the same way. I always have to remember that they called me back for a reason and it will make you made to try to figure out what is was so dont change a thing. I wore exactly the same thing, makeup was identical. Except this time they gave us a line. The director redirected me 6 times, each slightly different that the one before it. I felt great about it.
Shooting our first official skit for out web series on Saturday. Took some photos and video of the living room with the lighting in place. Should be a great shoot. Super quick. Lots of kids!

Day 136 - Avenue Q Audition and Electronic Stuff
Day 136 VLOG CLICK HERE!
So I will not be performing in Avenue Q this summer as I tanked my audition. I mean Titanic tanked. I hit an off key iceberg right at the beginning. Tried restarting the engines several times and kept hitting it. I slowly sank as the song progressed and when it ended, the panel of judges looked at me and silently thought "Where are the lifeboats?" I then pulled out my metaphoric violin and, along with the piano player, played a slow and torrid melody as Trekkie monster as the bow rose into the air. "Well we have your headshot and resume and we'll call if we need anything else." SNAP! I broke in half leaving one part in the room and the rest slammed back into the reality and I walked into the waiting room and planted on the couch. Like a lone survivor, I sat there and slowly froze to death as I recalled what had just transpired. I saw a fellow musical theater performer and we chatted until she went into the room. "Is Travis Dixon still here?" I hear the room monitor ask. I say "Yes" and he looks at me and responds with "You know you're done right?" Yes. I know I'm done. And I know you're done with me. Forever. I slipped out of my life jacket and sunk to the bottom of the icy Pacific aka La Mirada theater scene. R.I.P Travis Dixon 5-15-12.
After gaining a second life, I did some email/Internet correspondence boring stuff. And found out I have a callback for tomorrow for that thing I auditioned for on Monday that I thought auditioned tomorrow. Good think I asked off for work after all.

Day 135 - A Funny Audition, Avenue Q Prep and Round Rock Stumble 2
Day 135 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Received an early morning call from my manager to tell me that the audition I thought was Wednesday was in fact today. Thanks for that! Can you guess the product line?
That's right! Covergirl!
Since I finally got my sides for Avenue Q I learned my parts today for Trekkie, Princeton, Nicky and Rod. More on that tomorrow!
And I was just about to miss my rehearsal for Round Rock when I finally checked my phone to find a text that came in an hour before about the rehearsal parking lot being rented and to park on the street. We ran act 2 twice. Needs to be tightened up but its getting there. Had some fun with the character tonight too. Judge Hogg!
And we had a wounded bird in the back grass area. I hope its okay. Left it some seeds since it is unable to fly. Something pierced it's body just above its wing. Poor thing.

Day 134 VLOG CLICK HERE!
I had a Spiderman party today for a birthday in Beverly Hills. Aileen Burdock also runs the workshops at Actorswest with me and she referred me to a friend of her in need of my Spidey services. Awesome stuff! Great party and great fun! Thanks Aileen!
And we grabbed some fire logs and matches and had a brainstorming session on the roof patio. Made some lead way on some sketch ideas and even finished a short script. Hopefully we can shoot it on Saturday!

Day 133 - Sarah Katzman and Complex Comedy Private Gig
Day 133 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Met with Sarah Katzman again today. She just finished Burt Wonderstone with Steve Carrel and Identity Thief with Jason Bateman. She's super honest but at least she knows exactly what she's thinking and knows how to vocalize it.
Complex Comedy sans Matt (our fearless leader) drove down to Long Beach for a private gig at the Seal Beach Yacht Club. We performed as part of a fundraiser for a girls youth basketball team. Our contact was slightly drunk when we arrived as were some of the other parents. The show went excellent except that we had to start an hour behind schedule. No bother. Wesam even went to be our videographer.
One of the gents, the General as he was called, was a tough cookie. We put him in a game called Make Me Laugh in which he had to remain as stoic as possible. No smiles. No laughing. He was tough. But Sigmund Freud psychoanalysis made him crack. Then he grabbed me and tried to spank me I think!

Day 132 - Late Night Brainstorming Session In A.....Ba
Day 132 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Wesam and I had an idea about revamping Dropped Call and using Joe and Ricks bar as the new location. I guess Wesam thought it would be a great idea to go to their bar and discuss our ideas over drinks and pool and beer pong. Six drinks in and it was all about girls, getting laid and other non sequitur topics. Needless to say, not much got accomplished except getting on our way to a massive hangover. And I'm there. Now. Need water.
Until tomorrow!

Day 131 - Return to CPK and Manny Fernandez
Day 131 VLOG CLICK HERE!
My first shift at CPK since being back in town. My talents are being wasted. At no point in my career do I feel lower. When I first started working there I looked at it as a way to work on character development. Each table would get a different characteristic; southern accent, slight lisp, maybe a limp. Now, I struggle to get from table to table without choking my next customer. And I do it all with a smile.
Manny Fernandez was on the workshop schedule tonight. He cast the new pilot "Perception" for TNT starting in July. He's a great guy! Very personable. Oh and Aileen Burdock was in class and she was not on at all. Give it up. *wink wink*

Day 130 - Brainstorm, Minor Remodeling and Round Rock Stumble
Day 130 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Wesam and I brainstormed a little today about what we can do next for ourselves. While auditions are few and far between for me I need something to do to keep growing.
Changed the door seal on the bottom of the front entrance. Did you want to know that information? How does this work in my favor? I did a man thing.
And we had our first stumble through of Round Rock but stumble it was! I found out yesterday I was in a scene I had never blocked. And can I say, Aaron Kozak, what a phenomenal job you have done with this script. Big things for him are around the corner.

Day 129 - Penny Screen Test, Emails and Jennifer Lare
Day 129 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Penny wants to be a star but she needs some help sometimes. Thats where the green screen suit comes in. Still needs some tweaking but my skills on FCP are getting more useful every day.
Had to send a lot of emails today; agents, managers, jobs, friends as to get back on the same page with everyone.
Met with Jennifer Lare again tonight. She's one of the easier CD's in the way she controls her room. She's very laid back and give constructive criticism. She was impressed with our scene from Parenthood. She didn't even redirect. Nice work!

Day 128 - There's No Place Like Home
Day 128 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Flight back to civilization was perfect. Oh except at the US Airways there wasn't enough employees to run both the front check in desk and the kiosk in the terminal so we were all confused as to where our gate was located. Oh and I had to check my carry on bag because the plane out of Grand Junction is a tube with pipe cleaner for a prop. And our connecting flight had every screaming baby in Phoenix headed for LA.
But I made it home! First stop DENNYS!
Second stop, Sexy town.
Third stop, Coitusville
Fourth stop, Sleepyton
And I wrote my managers and agent to remind them I was back in town and ready to work! Seriously, time to get new headshots. Update reels and resumes! Reconnect!

Day 127 - Forever Plaid Forever Done, Miss Saigon Attempt and Monumental After Party
Day 127 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Forever Plaid is done! The show was fantastic. Our best yet! During Frankie's speech however there was an old woman on the phone saying "I'm going to need a ride!" Coincidently, it was when Frankie was talking about silence. "Quality silence!" Frankie punched as she continued to speak loudly. I had to hold it together. I really pushed out my notes today because, hey, its the last show! Damn reflection.
After the show we, The Plaids, auditioned for Miss Saigon. I've wanted to Chris for a long time but it may just be out of my range. It sits on a G in some places and thats just below my threshold. But I still have it but I wonder for HOW LONG?
And we had one final get together, cast and crew! Much love to the group. With every production there is usually one bad egg but with this group every one came together to coexist in harmony. Sure, we had challenges but we had each other's backs. I will miss them. Jason goes back to the Big Apple, John heads off to RI to do another Plaid and Kurtis and I head back to LA. In this business, chances are I'll see them again.
Fire pit. WHAT!?

Day 126 - Downtown Grand Junction, The Monument and Show Number 2
Day 126 VLOG CLICK HERE!
We to the monument second and drove Mountain rd all the way to Fruita. My mom kept freaking out at the sight of the canyon drop not 10 feet from the side of the road. But when we stopped the sights were amazing!
Second show tonight!! Getting better with every show. Parents were in the front row. I have a line where I directly ask someone in the audience "What year is it?" That person for this show was my mother. Her answer "1964?" What? My dad chimed in with the correct answer "2012." During the "Heart and Soul" number we invite someone to come to the stage to play the piano with me and of course Frankie picked my mum. I could hear her sniffling as she approached me in anticipation of playing together. Then I started getting sentimental. Dang it! I cant sing when Im crying! All in all, a much better show for myself.
Also someone pooped outside out dressing room. Perhaps they didn't like the show. Or maybe it was just Cinco de Mayo tequila shits.
Until tomorrow!
So what do I do with my parents in the biggest town in western Colorado? Well, we go downtown to the Cinco de Mayo festival of course! And what a festival it was! We walked by a half dozen tents, the most interesting one selling kettle corn. You round the corner and to find another half dozen food stands. All with a live recorded band playing festive mariachi tunes. We grabbed a bite but not before my mom pretended to see Truman's penis in the tub. At least, I think its Truman.

Day 125 - THE AVENGERS, Opening Night and After Party
Day 125 VLOG CLICK HERE!
The Avengers! Go see it! Marvel has done a fantastic job of slowly setting up this movie with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor movies etc. I had forgotten that Hawkeye was in Thor. He's uncredited but he has Thor in sights during the fight in the rain sequence. Pretty cool. As for the movie itself, WOW! It has everything and I mean everything. You won't be disappointed and be sure to wait the extra 3 minutes at the end because after the credits is some footage you don't want to miss. So %$#@ing incredible.
Had a fantastic opening night. Crowd was small but mighty! I dropped a line but Frankie covered nicely. I really enjoy this show and there was a moment but I said "yes" that I thought this show was above me as in I didn't I was capable of doing it. No nerves tonight. I felt solid on the ground. Now I can't wait to do it again and hate that is only 3 shows. My other Plaids may be glad to move onto other projects but I feel I could use another week or two. Really find those moments that I know a month down the road are going to hit me with a genius idea. I should have do it THAT WAY!!
Parents go into town as well. Met them briefly at the hotel to say hello. I miss them. My day is sporting a bushy goatee. What?
And then made my way over to 323 on ROOD. Yes, thats the bar where I had 4 double whiskey on the rocks. And no I didnt make that mistake again. I'll have a sprite on the rocks please. Yet somehow a delicious, amber colored beverage made its way into my hand. Two in fact. No as to whether they were drank by me is of no concern but know I wasn't going to repeat last week in any form. But thank you Theron just the same.
Kurtis pissed himself. Dork. He has a what is referred to as a hypospadias. Poor guy.

These guys are great. Awesome job tonight, Kurtis, Jason, John, Nick, Terri, Jerry, Nina, Bob and Adam. I know I left a few out. Let's do it again.....two more times. And then thats it.
Until tomorrow!

Day 124 - Promo for KKCO, Promo for Donors and Final Dress
Day 124 VLOG CLICK HERE!
Damn Grand Junction roads. We had a noon appointment at KKCO Channel 11 and every road we took was either dead end or detoured! But we made it and we did it and it's done.
Damn Grand Junction roads. We had a noon appointment at KKCO Channel 11 and every road we took was either dead end or detoured! But we made it and we did it and it's done.
Had a short.....short break and then did a promo for several donors of the theater. They attended a short presentation about the theaters multi-million dollar renovation.
And finally had our first and only full dress run through if you don't count opening night. I know where I need to focus which is basically every thing after Lady of Spain. The show is going to be great. I'm stoked my parents get to see it twice. I leave for CO in the morning and are braving the 14 hour drive from Sand Springs, OK.
Until tomorrow!

Day 123 - Channel 5 Promo and Tech Run Through
Day 123 VLOG CLICK HERE!
We did a promo for Channel 5 this morning. Here's the link to the entire thing.
Forever Plaid on Channel 5
I opted to do a different song because, frankly, WE SICK OF SICKING THE SAME SONG! No, we had no time.
And we finally got on the Avalon stage tonight for a tech run. Stop and go with lights and sound but mostly go. The show it's self is pretty easy. No big, elaborate lighting cues or set pieces. The props are the confusing part and mostly in one number, Lady of Spain. I go from The Lady herself, to a barking seal, dog trainer, plate spinner, ballerino, opera singer, ventriloquist, Jose' Jimenez and finally a fire inspector. Fun stuff!
